Televisi kini makin memanjakan penonton dengan beragam suguhan tontonan di layar kaca. Tak lagi terikat dengan waktu tayang, penonton pun makin leluasa mengatur waktu untuk menonton dan mengulang serial televisi favorit mereka lewat fasilitas yang ditawarkan oleh teknologi, seperti saluran streaming on-demand.

Kebebasan itu juga memicu kreativitas para produsen cerita di Hollywood untuk ‘menjahit’ narasi yang kian kompleks karena mereka yakin penonton rela meluangkan lebih banyak waktu untuk menikmati jalinan cerita yang ada. Hal itu tampak dari kehadiran judul-judul dan nama baru di daftar nominasi Emmy Awards. Pertarungan akhir The 68th Emmy Awards telah dimulai. Para voters di Amerika akan memilih tv show favorit mereka secara daring mulai 15 Agustus.

Ada beberapa serial pendatang baru yang  muncul dalam daftar nominator Emmy Awards 2016, di antaranya: Black-ish dan Master of None di kategori Best Comedy Series, serta Mr. Robot dan The Americans di kategori Best Drama Series.

Nominator baru di kategori drama seri yang menarik perhatian lainnya adalah Rami Malek (Mr. Robot) serta Keri Russel dan Matthew Rhys (The Americans). Di kategori serial komedi, Aziz Ansari (Master of None), Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley), Ellie Kemper (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), serta Tracee Ellis Ross (Black-ish). Drama seri andalan dari HBO, Game of Thrones ‘menguasai’ daftar nominasi dengan 23 nominasi, diikuti serial People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story (22 nominasi), dan Fargo (18 nominasi).

Malam gala The 68th Emmy Awards serta Red Carpet pre-show akan ditayangkan langsung di kanal ABC dari The Microsoft Theater di Los Angeles pada Minggu, 18 September 2016.
